Here she is in front of their hotel about to take the train to Porto to begin the fifteen day walk. On the Portugese Camino Marilyn walked past terraced fields, lush forests, vineyards and peaceful sleepy villages until, fifteen days later, they reached Santiago.
Santiago de Compostela is the capital of northwest Spain’s Galicia region. It’s known as the culmination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, and the alleged burial site of the apostle St. James. His remains lie within the Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela, consecrated in 1211, whose elaborately carved stone facades open onto grand plazas within the medieval walls of the old town.
“Altogether we walked over 220 miles in 15 days. My scarf was worn nearly every evening when we went out to dinner – it was both stylish (everyone wore scarves!) and practical, keeping my neck warm in the cool night air. I also wore it frequently during the sightseeing phase of our trip when we visited Bilbao, San Sebastian and Barcelona. Best accessory ever because it was no fuss, went with everything and dressed me up a notch or two!”
Thanks Marilyn for sharing your picture and adventures with us and we couldn’t agree more.
“Best Accessory Ever!”
How about it? Grab your favorite scarf and let’s go for a walk!
GREAT and INTERESTING read. They must be in great shape to walk 14+ miles/day. Good for them. Scarves are definitely in. Besides being interesting it was informative. Also enjoy learning.
Thanks, Karen. I appreciate the positive feedback ’cause I can be way too wordy at times and didn’t know if this might be one of them so we’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the post.
Sounds like a lifetime adventure. Oh to be 20 years younger….
No kidding! Me too! As I was reading up on this famous walk, I had the same wish as you, Jane. But, alas…. I’m not up for that many miles a day.
